Meldrim, Georgia is a small town located in Effingham County, southeast of Savannah. The town was established in the late 1800s and named after Robert Meldrim, a prominent local landowner and businessman who donated land for the construction of the Savannah and Tybee Railroad. Meldrim played a key role in the development of the town and was an important figure in the region. In the early 20th century, Meldrim became a hub for agricultural commerce, with cotton and other crops grown in the area and shipped out via the railroad. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a general store, a grist mill, and a sawmill. The population of Meldrim peaked in the 1920s and 1930s, with around 300 residents. Today, Meldrim remains a small, close-knit community with a population of just over 300 people.
