Homes near the Beaufort River, Battery Creek and the marsh get a salt film on glass, sliders and hardware that needs a wet wash and a dry buff. Bathrooms and closets on exterior walls get gray mildew along the grout and caulk. Pluff mud and sand from docks and boats settle into tracks, so vacuum before using any water. Rentals in The Point or the Historic District may have heart-pine floors that should never be wet-mopped.
Do it in order
Empty the house completely. Start the soaks for the oven, hood filter and shower first. Then work room by room from the top down, do the kitchen and bathrooms in full, then windows, then floors last. Finish with a daylight walkthrough, checklist and flashlight in hand. A three-bedroom move-out takes a couple doing it themselves 8 to 14 hours, and it always lands in the busiest week of the move.
